Take Control of Your Practicing is an educational masterclass that explores effective trumpet practice through reflection, listening, and research-informed strategies. Drawing from my experience as a performer and my doctoral research, the project examines how physical preparation, focus, and structured practice directly influence learning, sound development, and musical clarity.
The project addresses all stages of practice before, during, and after, highlighting the role of attention management, goal setting, flow, and reflection. By integrating concepts from performance psychology, motor learning, and pedagogy, it presents practical tools that help musicians develop efficient, sustainable practice habits and a deeper understanding of how music itself can be used as the main tool for musical growth.
The educational concert with M5 Mexican Brass offered an engaging and inspiring musical experience that connected performance and learning in a natural, human way. Through a diverse and approachable program, the ensemble combined high-level musicianship with clear and accessible explanations, helping the audience understand not only what they were hearing, but how the music works and what makes it expressive. The constant interaction with the audience created a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where curiosity and participation were encouraged.
Beyond the performance itself, the concert highlighted the educational value of music as a shared experience. Concepts such as active listening, teamwork, discipline, and creativity were presented in a practical and relatable way. M5 Mexican Brass conveyed that music is not something distant or reserved for specialists, but a living language that grows through collaboration, dedication, and enjoyment. It was a concert designed to learn, to be moved, and to leave the audience inspired to keep listening and making music.
